Richard B. Kaner is a Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Distinguished Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the Univerisity of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).  He has published over 275 papers in top peer reviewed journals and holds 14 U.S. patents with 20 more pending.  Professor Kaner has received awards from the Dreyfus, Fulbright, Guggenheim and Sloan Foundations as well as the Exxon Fellowship in Solid State Chemistry, the Buck-Whitney Research Award, the Tolman Medal and the Award in the Chemistry of Materials from the American Chemical Society for his work on new materials including graphene. He has been elected a Fellow of both the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the Materials Research Society (MRS).
